New Appointments to RecoverCare’s Senior Management Team Position Medical Equipment Company for Continued Growth
RecoverCare President Mary Zappone and Executive Vice President of Sales Larry Kramer share history of advancing organizational change and team building.
RecoverCare LLC, the leading distributor of wound care, bariatric and safe patient handling equipment to healthcare facilities nationwide, has taken a major step in its strategic growth plan through two recent appointments to its senior management team. With more than 20 years management experience at diverse global companies, Mary Zappone has assumed the position of President, while 30-year healthcare sales and marketing veteran Larry Kramer has been named Executive Vice President of Sales.
“Mary Zappone and Larry Kramer both bring tremendous leadership capabilities, visionary thinking and impressive records of success to RecoverCare,” said Mark Bidner, Chief Executive Officer of RecoverCare. “Their appointments complete the realignment of RecoverCare’s senior management group as the company continues to pursue significant growth on multiple fronts.”
Mary Zappone’s skill at transforming processes to drive revenue growth while creating environments that foster breakthroughs from diverse, multi-level teams have made her a respected leader throughout her career. Immediately prior to joining RecoverCare, Zappone served as President of Alcoa’s new Oil & Gas unit where she fast-tracked its market entry with five interdependent global contracts and commercialized seven new products. Previously, she has held high-influence management positions with business giants such as Tyco, General Electric, McKinsey & Company and Exxon. With a passion for mentoring colleagues, Zappone has also been very active in organizations that support women in business and encourage girls to study math and science. She holds an MBA in Finance/Marketing from Columbia Business School and a bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from Johns Hopkins University.
“I started out as a pre-med major at Johns Hopkins and have had a nearly life-long interest in healthcare, so the opportunity to join RecoverCare is particularly exciting for me,” said Zappone. “I believe my experience with companies undergoing merger integration and in advancing business performance programs will prove extremely valuable as RecoverCare expands its product portfolio, strengthens operations and promotes employee development.”
Larry Kramer has built a reputation as a hands-on developmental leader with extensive senior management experience in the hospital acute care, alternate care and retail provider markets. Kramer has a consistent record of driving significant growth in every assignment including those at four Fortune 500 companies and one Neuroscience company. Most recently, he was Group Vice President Sales at AmerisourceBergen Corporation with responsibility for the company’s distribution services and supply chain consulting sales units. During his tenure, the company gained significant growth in its medical device and consulting services segments and displaced market leading competitors. He has also held executive positions at industry leaders such as Drager Medical, B. Braun Medical, Stryker Orthopedics, Elekta AB, and Baxter Healthcare Corporation. Kramer earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Management from Pennsylvania State University.
“RecoverCare is well positioned to provide value in two rapidly expanding areas in healthcare: long-term care to the growing aging population and care for increasing numbers of obese patients,” said Larry Kramer. “In each of these areas, RecoverCare’s strategy is to bring to market a new generation of innovative products and customer support systems that enable providers to enhance care and improve patient outcomes while helping to effectively manage costs and reimbursement.”
As an example of the type of new products the industry can expect to see from the company in the next 12 months and beyond, Zappone points to RecoverCare’s recent introduction of the VitalGo Total Lift Bed™, the only hospital-grade bed that takes a patient from lying to a fully standing position with no lifting by the caregiver. This breakthrough bed also has a patent pending Foot Lifter Scale that allows the physician, nurse or therapist to determine the appropriate amount of weight a patient should bear at each stage of treatment.
Beyond driving new product development, Zappone and Kramer will spearhead new employee career-pathing initiatives and customer training programs that RecoverCare will launch in the coming year.
